MICHELE FARIAS

University of Hawai’i West O’ahu, Hawai’i

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Michele aims to work as a registered nurse with surgical and acutely ill adult patients. She has research and community interests in health disparities affecting Native Hawaiians.

DENISE GALE

Brigham Young University-Idaho

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Denice is working towards a bachelor’s in marriage and family studies. Her goal is to help clients of all ages heal from childhood developmental trauma, working especially with mothers who are adult survivors of child abuse.

IMANI HARRIS

University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

After completing her BS in electrical engineering, Imani hopes to earn a master’s in mechanical engineering and go on to study intellectual property law.  She is committed to encouraging more young women (especially in communities of color) to pursue engineering.

Rockland Boces Practical Nursing Program, New York

LPN certificate

Joy describes herself as a “nurse-in-progress”.  This year, she is working toward her LPN certificate.  She plans to continue on to earn a BSN, then a Master’s.  She hopes to become a nurse practitioner serving clients in low income communities.

Leeward Community College, Hawai’i

Associates in Communications

Specializing in communications, Kaui is engaged in community outreach and campus activism.  She plans to pursue her studies after earning her Associate’s, with a goal of earning her bachelor’s at UH-Manoa.

George Mason University, Virginia

Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction for Elementary Education

Silvana plans to teach in low-income communities and hopes to be an advocate and resource for vulnerable students and their families.
